JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel’s Ben-Gurion International Airport increased security following an attempted terrorist attack on a flight to the United States.
Airline passengers traveling from Israel to the United States will also be subjected to additional questioning, according to reports.
Last Friday, Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, a Nigerian native currently studying in London, attempted to detonate explosive devices while on board a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit. He was subdued by crew and passengers, and the plane landed safely.
Abdulmutallab was listed in a U.S. terrorism database last month after his father contacted U.S. State Department officials because he was worried about his son’s connections to extremist Muslim groups, the Washington Post reported. Abdulmutallab said he was trained by al-Qaida in Yemen, according to reports.
