JERUSALEM (JTA) — Palestinians protested at the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron, clashing with Israeli soldiers.
About 100 Palestinians marched Monday through Hebron to the tomb, a site that is holy to Jews and Muslims, to protest the Israeli government’s decision the previous day to include it on a list of Jewish heritage sites, according to reports.
The soldiers sprayed tear gas and threw stun grenades at the Palestinian protesters after they hit the soldiers with rocks and bottles.
One soldier was injured and three Palestinians suffered from tear gas inhalation, Haaretz reported.
Palestinians in Hebron also called a general strike in protest of the Knesset decision Sunday to put more than $100 million into renovating Jewish heritage sites including the Tomb of the Patriarchs and Rachel’s Tomb in the West Bank.
Meanwhile, Israeli soldiers discovered a bomb and a nearly 12-inch knife on a Palestinian at a checkpoint east of Nablus Monday. He was taken into custody, according to the Israeli army.
