JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli troops killed two Palestinians who infiltrated into Israel from the southern Gaza Strip.

"Two Palestinian terrorists were identified infiltrating into Israel from the southern Gaza Strip earlier this morning," according to a statement released Tuesday by the Israeli military. "The soldiers on the scene exchanged fire with the terrorists, during which both were killed."

Roadblocks were erected in the area after the infiltration. Four communities comprising thousands of residents located on the border with Gaza were closed and children kept home from school.

Israeli security forces are on high alert on the Gaza border following Monday morning’s killing of nine international activists after Israel’s Navy boarded several Gaza-bound ships.

Also Tuesday, Israel’s Air Force struck two towns in Gaza, shortly after two Kassam rockets fired from Gaza landed near a kibbutz in southern Israel.

Three Palestinians were killed in the strike, according to Palestinian sources. They were believed to be preparing to launch another rocket at Israel, Ynet reported.

Another Kassam struck the same area on Monday night, next to the kibbutz greenhouse, according to Ynet.
