Avital Simon’s interest in making aliyah was piqued after an eye-opening year and a half as an overseas student in Israel. Currently a senior at Stern College for Women, she is planning for her future, and seriously considering making aliyah.

Avital will be among the hundreds of people expected to attend the Aliyah Planning Expo sponsored by the Jewish Agency in New York, where Israeli professionals will provide information about employment, housing, higher education and Hebrew language programs for those considering aliyah.

Liron Ben Simon, a vendor at the New York expo, will be representing Ruth Cargo shipping. “Working at the expo is a big privilege — we’re helping individuals make a smoother transition to Israel,” he said. Ben Simon will be among over a dozen representatives at the expo, including banking, medical insurance and shipping providers. There will also be an Israeli real estate exhibition featuring housing opportunities in Israel.

For students and young professionals, there will be a wine and cheese reception, which will highlight economic and employment opportunities. The reception will also serve as a social event, bringing together young adults interested in making aliyah.

The same week, Jewish-Agency sponsored Aliyah expos will also be taking place in cities across North America including Washington D.C., Toronto, Ft. Lauderdale and Los Angeles.

“This will provide an opportunity for hundreds of people in our community to see how to actualize their dream of moving to Israel – whether they are at the beginning, middle or end of the process,” said Liran Avisar, director of Aliyah Delegation at the Jewish Agency.

The aliyah expo will take place at the Marriot Marquis (1535 Broadway at 46th Street) on Sunday, June 13 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. RSVP is required at www.jewishagency.org/naexpo. For more information contact Jennifer Taviv, (212) 339-6951 or aliyahmarketingna@jafi.org.
