WASHINGTON (JTA) — Ira Forman is retiring after leading the National Jewish Democratic Council for 14 years.
Forman, chief executive officer of the organization, will immediately join the NJDC board of directors and executive committee, NJDC chairman Marc Stanley said in a statement.
NJDC President David Harris, who has shared leadership with Forman for the last year, will assume his CEO responsibilities.
Forman said he will pursue "a number of related passions."
"Those aspirations include writing a second book on Jews in American politics as well as engaging in the debate over the debasement of our public discourse," he said.
Forman recently signed a pledge brokered by the Anti-Defamation League with his Republican Jewish Coalition counterpart, Matt Brooks, to keep political debate civil within the Jewish community.
The NJDC represents Jewish interests to the Democratic Party and makes the party’s case to the Jewish community.
