JERUSALEM (JTA) — A Jerusalem municipal building committee approved the rezoning of eastern Jerusalem land for the construction of 130 housing units.

The land between the Jerusalem neighborhoods of Gilo and Beit Safafa was previously zoned for hotels.

The Jerusalem Local Planning and Building Committee officially changed the zoning Monday.

The plan had been removed from the committee’s agenda earlier this month in advance of a meeting in New York between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The city is suffering from a shortage of hotel rooms, according to reports.
