(JTA) — Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona congresswoman who was shot in the head in January, was released from the hospital.

Giffords’ release Wednesday from TIRR Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston came days after the release of photos of the recovering lawmaker taken in May. She has been rehabilitating there for five months.

She reportedly will move to a home that her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, has in League City, Texas, near the Johnson Space Center. Giffords will return to TIRR Memorial each day for speech, music, physical and occupational therapy.

It is unknown whether Giffords, the first Jewish congresswoman elected from Arizona, will be able to return to her post. The third-term Democrat was shot Jan. 8 as she met with constituents in Tucson, Ariz.; six people were killed.
