(JTA) — An Israeli airstrike against a group attempting to fire rockets into Israel killed a leader of the al-Qaida-affiliated Army of Islam.

Muaman Abu-daf, a commander of the Army of Islam,  was killed in the overnight Friday strike, the Israel Defense Forces reported. According to the IDF, Abu-daf had been involved recently in a  thwarted terrorist strike on the Egypt-Israel border.

Five others were injured in the strike, The Jerusalem Post reported, citing the Palestinian news outlet Al Resalah.
