Arrests made in death of Jaffa church leader

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Six Israeli Arabs were arrested in connection with the stabbing death of a prominent Greek Orthodox Church leader in Israel.

Gabriel Cadis, chairman of the Jaffa Orthodox Church Association, was stabbed in Jaffa following a parade Jan. 6 to mark the Greek Orthodox Church’s Christmas Eve. Cadis was a lawyer and an accountant. He was 60.

The six suspects reportedly are all Christians from Jaffa. The alleged killer reportedly was dressed in a Santa suit.

Cadis was elected last month to a third term as lay leader of Greek Orthodoxy in Jaffa, according to Sky News.
