Israel was behind Iranian scientist’s death, Time reports

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency assassinated an Iranian scientist in a bomb attack, Time Magazine reported, citing unnamed Western intelligence sources.

Saturday’s report came as Iranian state television said that the Islamic Republic had evidence that the Jan. 11 attack was "planned, guided and supported" by the  Central Intelligence Agency of the United States.

The Time report also intimated that Israel was behind the deaths of three other Iranian nuclear scientists in the past two years. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied ties to the assassinations.

On Sunday, Iran’s deputy armed forces chief, Brig.-Gen. Massoud Jazayeri, vowed in an interview with the state-run Press TV to retaliate against Israel for its role in the assassination.

“The opponents of Revolution and the nation’s progress should have no doubt that the punitive response to the U.S., the Zionist regime and their criminal accomplices will be delivered in an opportune time,” he reportedly said.
