(JTA) — Police found bullet holes at the entrance to a Jewish community center near Paris, authorities in France said.
Three bullet holes were found Saturday in a door and in the wall of a center belonging to the Jewish community of Garges-les-Gonesse north of the French capital, according to a report Sunday by the AFP news agency, which quoted unnamed police officials.
“We confirmed there were bullet holes,” one source was quoted as saying. “We have no reason to believe the incident was anti-Semitic.”
The online edition of the Le Parisien newspaper reported the door that was hit was a back entrance to the building. The shots were fired on Friday night, according to the paper.
Rene Taieb, who heads the local Jewish community, was quoted as telling AFP that he advised the community “to exercise caution as we wait for the results of the investigation. If this is an anti-Semitic incident, then we condemn it very strongly.”
