JERUSALEM (JTA) — A Palestinian man was killed near Hebron during clashes between a group of Palestinians and Israeli army troops.
The Palestinians reportedly threw rocks at soldiers on a regular patrol and then tried to climb into an Israeli military jeep. The soldiers responded with tear gas and stun grenades before firing at one of the rioters.
Muataz Idris Shrawana, 19, died of the gunshot at a hospital in Hebron. It was at first reported that he was run over and killed by the jeep.
Shrawana was a student at the Palestinian Authority Military Academy in Jericho, the Palestinian Maan news agency reported. He was training to join the Palestinian security service.
The Israel Defense Forces is investigating the incident.
