NEW YORK (JTA) — The Jewish Community Foundation of Greater MetroWest N.J. received a $5 million grant to help create an endowed community-based Jewish camp program in North America.
The foundation, the planned giving and endowment arm of the northern New Jersey-based Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest, announced the gift from the Paula and Jerry Gottesman Family Supporting Foundation in a statement on Wednesday.
Other donations will join the Gottesman foundation gift toward the camp program, as well as other camp-related efforts, including 250 incentive grants for first-time overnight campers and funding for more affordable camp options for families.
“In the same way that the Greater MetroWest effort has been a model for other communities for the last few years, this will be the largest endowed community program and will set the standard for others across North America,” said Jeremy Fingerman, chief executive officer of the Foundation for Jewish Camp.
The program is led by co-chairs Archie Gottesman and Gary DeBode of Summit, N.J., and Rob and Elisa Spungen Bildner of Montclair, N.J.
