Five reasons we’re excited for ‘The Goldbergs’

Just a reminder that if you haven’t done so already, it’s time to turn down the Air Supply, grab a can of Tab, and pop in a VHS tape. No, it’s not another ’80s-themed 40th birthday party — it’s tonight’s premiere of “The Goldbergs” at 9 p.m. on ABC!

The show follows a regular (and by regular we mean angry and hilarious) American suburban family that also happens to be Jewish. Their antics are tracked by the youngest Goldberg, 11-year-old Adam, who tapes the household’s nutty antics on his trusty video camera. Think “The Wonder Years,” just a lot louder and centered instead on Kevin’s Jewish best friend.

The show has been highly anticipated over here at 6NoBacon for many, many reasons:

  1. We can’t wait for the opportunity to be  transported back to a simpler time, which, according to the show’s official description, precedes “parenting blogs, trophies for showing up, and peanut allergies.”
  2. It was also a time when people wore color block sweaters, high-waisted pants and acid wash. Bring it on!
  3. The awesome cast includes Jeff Garlin (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Wendi McLendon-Covey (“Bridesmaids”) and George Segal (“Just Shoot Me”).
  4. Finally, after an entire season of “Princesses: Long Island,” we are once again hopeful that it might be possible to relate to Jews on TV.
  5. It looks so much funnier than the other family comedies out this season. See for yourself.
