(JTA) — Israeli troops killed one Palestinian and injured another near Jabaliya in the northern Gaza Strip, Palestinian media reported.
Bilal Samer Oweidah, 20, was shot and killed Friday near the border separating the strip from Israel, the Maan news agency reported.
An Israeli army spokesman told Army Radio that the shooting occurred after a group of men tried to sabotage the fence.
A spokesman for the the Health Ministry in Gaza, Ashraf al-Qidra, said Oweidah was shot in the chest. According to al-Qidra, Owiedah was among a group of Palestinians gathered to protest Israel’s use of land as a buffer zone.
Another Palestinian was moderately injured, he said.
