When Sid Caesar played Chabad — in ‘French,’ ‘Italian,’ ‘German’ and ‘Japanese’

The late comedian brought his multilingual schtick to the Hasidic group’s telethon.

The Associated Press has a roundup of celebrity reactions to the death of comedian Sid Caesar, including from comedy legends like Mel Brooks, Joan Rivers and Woody Allen.

“From my vantage point, which was sometimes no further than an inch from his face, and one time nose on nose, he was inarguably the greatest pantomimist, monologist and single sketch comedian who ever worked in television. His ability to mimic foreign languages in double talk was extraordinary,” said Brooks, Caesar’s longtime collaborator.

Caesar even brought his multilingual schtick to the Chabad telethon, the “Jewish Show of Shows” (as Larry King dubbed it):
