(JTA) — An Israeli was arrested after returning from four months fighting for rebel armies in Syria’s civil war.

Ahmed Shorabji, a resident of the Arab city of Umm al-Fahm, was indicted by the Haifa Magistrate’s Court Wednesday and will be held in prison on remand until at least May 25, according to Haaretz. He is alleged to have entered an enemy country, participated in a prohibited military training exercise and fought with the extremist Islamist Daash organization.

Shorabji’s lawer said he denies the charges.

The handful of Israeli Arabs who have fought in Syria have been arrested and charged upon their return.
