JERUSALEM (JTA) — A Palestinian teenager died hours after he was shot by Israeli troops while attempting to breach the security fence between the West Bank and Israel.

Mohammed Yehya, 18, and a group of Palestinians were trying to enter Israel through the fence in the northern West Bank on Monday night, according to the Israel Defense Forces. There are conflicting reports about whether he was shot in the leg or stomach. The IDF said its troops shot at the infiltrators’ legs.

Yehya died Tuesday morning at a Nablus hospital, the Palestinian Maan news agency reported.

He is the third West Bank Palestinian to die at the hands of Israeli troops in recent days. A Palestinian teen was killed in eastern Jerusalem after attacking an Israeli soldier with a knife, and a Palestinian man was shot and killed in Hebron after stabbing an Israeli soldier in the head and torso.
