JERUSALEM (JTA) — The Israeli army will investigate whether there is a tunnel running under a kibbutz located on the border with Gaza.
The investigation was reported Wednesday on Israel Channel 10 and confirmed by the Israel Defense Forces.
The IDF moved to conduct the investigation after Kibbutz Nirim hired a private geophysical survey mapping company to check for underground building in the area of the kibbutz. Residents had complained that they heard work going on under their homes — the same complaints they had made before Israel’s operation in Gaza last summer.
The company, Geotech, determined with 70 percent certainty that a tunnel had been constructed beneath the kibbutz, the Times of Israel reported, citing the company’s private report.
According to international media reports, Hamas has been rebuilding terror tunnels running from Gaza to communities in southern Israel.
