JERUSALEM (JTA) — Two mortars fired from Syria struck the Israeli side of the Golan Heights.

The mortars fired on Monday afternoon landed in an open area near the border. No injuries were reported. The Israeli army was searching the area for the shells, according to an Israel Defense Forces spokesman.

It is not known if the shelling was deliberate or errant fire from the fighting between Syria’s army and rebels as part of the country’s 4-year-old civil war.

Several stray rockets and shells have landed in Israel in recent months.
