Israeli soldier injured, two Palestinian assailants killed in Hebron

JERUSALEM (JTA) — An Israeli soldier was wounded and two Palestinian assailants killed in two separate incidents in the West Bank city of Hebron.

The soldier was stabbed in the head in an attack on Thursday morning near the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron, according to the Israel Defense Forces. His assailant was shot and killed by Border Police officers.

The assailant was identified by the Palestinian Maan news agency as Mahdi Mohammad Ramadan al-Muhtasib, 23, of Hebron.

The attack reportedly occurred during clashes between Israeli security services and Palestinian rioters. Similar clashes have taken place in Hebron in recent days.

Later on Thursday, a Palestinian man was shot and killed after he attempted to stab an Israeli soldier at a security post in front of Beit Hadassah, a Jewish enclave in Hebron. The alleged attacker, identified by Maan as Farouk Abdel Qader Omar Sidr, 19, from Hebron, was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers, according to the IDF.

The Thursday morning stabbing was the eighth attack in Hebron this month, with another six attempted attacks in the area thwarted by Israeli security forces, according to Haaretz.
