JERUSALEM (JTA) — An Israeli Border Police officer and a civilian woman were moderately injured in separate stabbing attacks in Jerusalem.
The officer was stabbed in the neck on Sunday morning at the Damascus Gate, an entrance to the Old City, by a Palestinian who shouted “God is great” in Arabic, according to police. The assailant, a resident of Nablus in the northern West Bank, was shot and killed, according to the Israel Defense Forces.
About two hours later, a 30-year-old woman waiting at a bus stop was stabbed in the back. She was treated on a bus that arrived at the scene until an ambulance transferred her to a Jerusalem hospital. The victim reportedly was a foreign worker from Nepal.
The assailant, who fled, was arrested an hour later following a manhunt in the area, according to the IDF. He was identified as a 17-year-old Palestinian resident of Hebron in the West Bank. Two accomplices also were arrested.
