Palestinian teen reportedly killed, dozens wounded in Israeli army raid

(JTA) — A Palestinian teenager reportedly died from wounds sustained in clashes with Israeli troops at a West Bank refugee camp near Hebron.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said Mohammad Abu Hashash, 17, died Tuesday after sustaining live fire to the chest, according to news reports.

Dozens of other Palestinians were wounded in the overnight action, which the Israel Defense Forces said was aimed at uncovering weaponry stashed at the Fawwar camp.

According to an IDF spokesperson cited by The Times of Israel, troops were confronted with thrown rocks and explosive devices during the operation and “responded with riot dispersal means and fired 0.22 caliber bullets toward main instigators.” The spokesperson said troops had found “two improvised handguns, other weapons and ammunition.”
