Magnificent Mishloach Manot

One of the things that the holiday of Purim is best known for is the gifts of food that people give to each other, known as Mishloach Manot. Since Purim is a time of joy, laughter and costumes, many families like to come up with fun, creative themes for their Mishloach Manot, some of which even match their costumes. Here are some of my favorite Mishloach Manot themes from my own community this past Purim!

Theme: Baby Shark

“Chag sameach doo doo doo doo, chag sameach doo doo doo doo…”

Based on the popular song, this Mishloach Manot included:

  • A shark patterned bag
  • Sea salt Popcorners
  • Shark grabber toy with candy
  • Kinder egg
  • Baby bottle with baby rattle candies and shark gummies
  • Baby food
  • Jellyfish candy
  • Mini water bottle
  • “Under the Sea” board book

Theme: Where’s Waldo?

“Happy Purim, wherever you are!”

 

Based on the famous sight puzzle book, this Mishloach Manot in Waldo’s favorite colors includes:

  • “Where’s Waldo?” bag
  • Red apple
  • Water bottle with a red-and-white striped straw
  • Picture of the family in their Waldo costumes
  • Bag of red-and-white striped peppermint Starlight candies

Theme: Inspector Gadget 

“Top Secret!

“Your mission, should you choose to accept it: Eat, drink and be merry! Love, Inspector Gadget, Chief Quimby, Penny, Brain…and Dr. Claw. This message will self-destruct in five seconds.”

Theme: “Dragons Love Tacos”

Based on the children’s picture book, this Mishloach Manot includes:

  • Salsa chips
  • Homemade dragon cookie
  • Mexican beer
  • Miniature bottle of hot sauce
  • Taco-shaped coin pouch

Theme: Israel

“Hope your Purim Is-raeli great!”

This Mishloach Manot includes:

  • Blue and white “Happy Purim” bag
  • Blue energy drink
  • Homemade Israeli flag cookies
  • Two white lollipops
  • Mini Israeli flag
  • Blue Laffy Taffy
  • Blue-and-white-wrapped candies

Theme: Rainbows and Unicorns

This colorful Mishloach Manot includes:

  • A unicorn bag
  • Rainbow Sour Belts candy
  • Cookies with rainbow candy-coated chocolate pieces
  • Unicorn pudding
  • Unicorn chocolate coin
  • Hamantashen

Theme: Superheroes

“Happy Purim! Find your inner hero”

This super Mishloach Manot includes:

  • A bottle of Powerade
  • Super Snacks barbecue twists
  • Super Duper candy
  • A picture of the family in their costumes

And my own family’s theme…

Theme: Beauty and the Beast

“Soup du jour, hot hors d’oeuvres,

Why, we only live to serve

Try the grey stuff, it’s delicious

Don’t believe me, ask the dishes…

Be our guest! Happy Purim from the Max family”

This Mishloach Manot includes:

  • Belle jelly beans
  • Vegetable soup packet (soup du jour)
  • Spicy chips (hot hors d’oeuvres)
  • Oatmeal (grey stuff)
