Regarding your editorial, “Time To Act On Agunot” (July 3), you rightly conclude that “it is time to increase social pressure on our rabbis to find a way to make agunot a problem solved, not one that continues to stain our community.”
When interviewing candidates for the position of rabbi, synagogue boards should ask potential rabbis: “When you officiate at weddings will you insist that couples sign a halachic prenuptial agreement? What will you do to help agunot and women being denied a halachic divorce?” If the answers are unsatisfactory, the synagogue should move on to the next candidate.
