All but one of the 10 candidates at the first debate of 2008 Republican presidential contenders said it would be a “good day for America” if Roe v. Wade were repealed. Only Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, said repeal of the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1973 decision upholding a right to abortion would be “ok,” but leaving it on the books would also be “ok.” On another social issue in Thursday night’s MSNBC debate, three candidates – Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.), Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) and Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee – raised their hands when asked who doesn’t believe in evolution.
