An Israeli tied for second place in the World Chess Championship.
Boris Gelfand and outgoing champion Vladimir Kramnik of Russia were runners-up in Sunday’s finals of the chess championship in Mexico City.
“This is the biggest achievement of my life,” the Minsk-born Gelfand told Yediot Achronot. Gelfand, 39, said he taught himself chess as a child. He is ranked No. 1 in Israel.
Indian grand master Vishwanatan Anand won the championship.
