The former mayor of New York, who will keynote the Republican National Convention next week, called Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) “ambiguous” on his Israel policy. In an interview with the New York Post’s Maggie Haberman published Wednesday, Giuliani cited Obama’s attempt to clarify his declaration of support for an undivided Jerusalem, which he made during a speech at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee annual policy conference in June.
Giuliani told the Post that the Democratic presidential candidate’s ambiguity is “of grave concern. It either comes from deeply held views that he has or lack of experience, one or the other. But in either case he’s too close to the presidency not to have formed views about this that don’t require having to explain it two or three different times.”
An Obama spokesman told the Post that both Obama and his presumptive running mate, Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) are strong friends of Israel in the Senate, and are committed to Israel’s security.
“Mayor Giuliani has now made more false attacks than John McCain has houses, so voters won’t take this latest one too seriously,” Tommy Vietor said.
