JERUSALEM (JTA) — The Cleveland Jewish News reduced its workforce due to the worsening local and national economic situation, its publisher announced.
In a letter to the newspaper’s readers, Michael Bennett said the weekly reduced six full-time positions to part-time effective Feb. 1 and eliminated three positions — two full-time and one part-time — as of Feb. 15.
Bennett wrote that advertising revenue is expected to decrease as much as 20 percent during 2009. The 44-year-old independent newspaper receives nearly 90 percent of its revenue from advertising sales. It recently upgraded its Web site.
The weekly has a circulation of about 12,500 and a readership of 45,000. The greater Cleveland Jewish community is estimated at about 81,500.
