JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel’s Chief Rabbinate wants a Masorti movement’s radio commercial taken off the air.

The attorney for the chief rabbinate on Tuesday asked the Israel Broadcasting Authority to stop airing the ad encouraging couples to have a Conservative wedding ceremony because it does not state that a Conservative wedding is not recognized by the state, Ynet reported.

The letter called the Masorti movement "an organization that undermines official state institutions."

A Masorti spokesman told Ynet that the commercial makes it clear to couples that the Masorti ceremony is not recognized by the state, and recommends that couples have a civil wedding abroad that they can register with the Interior Ministry.

The broadcasting authority told Ynet that the ad "has been approved for broadcasting in accordance with IBA regulations."
