Israel already has the Iron Dome to intercept rockets. Now the Israeli army’s Engineer Corps has developed a countermeasure for a different type of projectile: flying fruit.

The fruit ninja video was inspired by an iPhone game of the same name and by boredom at one IDF base. Lest Israel’s enemies now libel Israeli soldiers as wasters of food, YNet reports that the “soldiers used fruit that was no longer edible.”
In one test (as the video shows), the machete-wielding fruit ninja displayed an inability to handle multiple fruits launched simultaneously. Let’s hope that the Engineer Corps can work out the kinks so as to be ready in the unlikely event that Hamas and Hezbollah team up with Dole or Chiquita.
