Despite a tough economy, the Combined Jewish Philanthropies, the Jewish federation of Boston, met its fund raising goals last fiscal year, according to The Boston Business Journal. That included $3 million in gifts from new donors who did not give the previous year.

Despite a rough economy, Combined Jewish Philanthropies said it still reached its goal of raising $40 million, partly because of $3 million in contributions from new donors and from people who came off the sidelines after sitting out the 2009 campaign.
On average, year-over-year gifts increased by more than 8 percent compared with 2009’s campaign. CJP said the strong support translates into increased funds for the community.
The federation also allocated $1 million for Israel advocacy and an additional $1 million for Birthright Israel, according to the Biz Journal.
