Praise for the friendly attitude and understanding shown by the Polish Government toward Jews of that country wishing to go to Israel was voiced today by Israel Barzilai, Minister to Warsaw, who is here for a visit.
The rate of Jewish emigration from Poland to Israel is 2,300 persons a month, Mr. Barzilai said, adding that 20,000 Polish Jews had applied for exit permits up to the end of December. The Polish Government, he went on, has accepted the Israel legation’s request to authorize the issuance of travel documents on the spot to Polish Jews residing in Rumania and China so that they can go directly to Israel to settle.
The Polish Government, he continued is now examining the legation’s proposals for using funds subscribed in Poland for Jewish national institutions. These funds are estimated at 150,000,000 zlotys.
