Nearly 25,000 persons hailed the establishment of Israel here at one of the biggest mass demonstrations this city has ever witnessed. Acting Mayor Edwards, Rabbi Leon Fram, Rep. Howard Coffin arid numerous other labor and civic leaders participated in the rally, which was presided over by Philip Slomovitz, editor of the Detroit Jewish News.
Following the sounding of the Shofar, a procession of Jewish War Veterans members hoisted the flag of Israel alongside the banners of the member states of the United Nations.
