Rosh Hashonah was worth $30,000 — cash — to Joe Wisebord of this town.
Wisebord, a poor storekeeper, was in dire financial straits when he was offered a Canadian Legion sweepstakes ticket. He noted that the date of the race coincided with the second day of New Year and, taking this as a good-luck sign, scraped up the money to buy it.
The race was run at Saint Leger, and today Wisebord was notified that he is $30,000 richer. He said he will visit Poland to see his mother.
