Preparations were completed today for receiving the first group of refugees to be settled on the 26,000-acre Sosua tract, who are expected to arrive from Genoa, Italy, on May 8 aboard the Italian steamship Conte Biancamano.
The 36 refugees will be greeted at Ciudad Trujillo by Dr. Joseph Rosen, vice-president of the Dominican Republic Settlement Association; David J. Schweitzer, a director of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, who arrived here yesterday from New York, and W.A. Frey, secretary of DORSA.
The group will then be brought to Sosua, where they will be met by Dr. Frederick Perlstein, who is directing the settlement activities. They will be interviewed and photographed by moving picture photographers at Sosua.
