Approximately 400,000 Jews in the Ukraine are in need of a means of livelihood, declared the “Emes,” Communist Yiddish daily, in discussing the five year plan for economic work in Jewish centers. This number constitutes one-quarter of the total Jewish population in the Ukraine, 122,000 being entirely declassed. Some among the rest are employed as artisans, many are unemployed and without a definite trade.
Before 1933, it is expected that Jewish employees in government enterprises will have dwindled to 10%, leading to an increase in Jewish unemployment, the paper states.
