About 500 rabbis and Jewish community leaders from 30 countries are gathered here for a conference that opened Tuesday in celebration of Israel’s 40th anniversary.
The conference marks the first official visits to Israel by the chief rabbis of two Communist countries, Hungary and Yugoslavia, as well as rabbis from Austria, Greece and Argentina.
Jewish communities in Japan, India and other parts of the world are also represented.
