Over 500,000 kronen were raised by the followers of Rebbe Shapiro, known as the Muncazer rebbe, to redeem his valuable library which has been seized by the authorities for alleged non-payment of taxes.
A number of donations was received from American followers of the rebbe.
The authorities claim taxes in the amount of 1,000,000 kronen, based on profits alleged made on the sale of Pidyonoth, bursaries paid by the chassidim when visiting the rebbe.
