More than 6, 000 Jews from Latin American countries settled in Israel in 1963, despite inadequate conditions for settlement of such middle class immigrants, M. Kitron, chairman of the Latin American Immigrants Association, reported today.
He told a meeting of 70 delegates, convened to discuss means of encouraging such immigration, that 20,000 Latin American Jews had settled in Israel since the establishment of the state. He added that he appreciated efforts made by the Jewish Agency and the Government to assist the newcomers but he claimed that there were still no adequate methods and tools for that purpose, and he added that there was an urgent need for improvement in such efforts.
