The United Jewish Aid Societies, family welfare agency of the Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charities, distributed a total of $34,077 in cash relief to 768 applicants during May, according to announcement Friday night by Samuel Rabinovitch, executive director of the Societies, which is one of the twenty-five Federation agencies to participate in funds raised during the $500,000 twenty-fifth anniversary campaign, now being conducted under the chairmanship of County Judge Algeron I. Nova.
May statistics bring the aggregate amount granted in cash relief by the Societies for the first five months of the year to $167,060, and the total number of applicants receiving such aid to 3,870.
“The United Jewish Aid Societies is arranging a program of vacation projects for the families known to the agency,” said Mr. Rabinovitch. “The children in our families number more than 5,000, and by process of careful selection, 850 have been listed for camp care, representing that group urgently requiring this type of service for health and social reasons While it is recognized that all the children would benefit by a vacation in pleasant country surroundings in contrast to depressing and unsatisfactory home conditions, it unfortunately was necessary to reduce the list to the very urgent cases.
“Two outings are to be given during July by the Societies, when we expect to give 150 children the thrill of seeing baseball games at the Yankee Stadium. These outings were made possible through the generosity of Col. Jacob Ruppert. The Societies will provide escorts for the children. Individual outings to parks, museums, etc., will be arranged for the children whose families are receiving other benefits from the Societies.”
JUNIOR CHARITIES TO INSTALL OFFICERS
The Junior Federation of the Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charities will install officers for the coming year at ceremonies to be held tomorrow night, with Supreme Court Justice Mitchell May, president of the Brooklyn Federation, as installing officer and guest of honor.
The exercises will be held at the Brooklyn Jewish Center, 647 Eastern Parkway, beginning at 8:30 o’clock, and are to mark the closing meeting of the spring season for the Junior group. Dancing on the roof of the Center will follow the formal proceedings.
Milton Pariser will assume office as president! Ivan H. Gordon is first vice-president; Bernard Kovner, second vice-president; Miss Hannah Goldfarb, third vice-president; Mrs. Diana L. Jacoby, secretary, and Joel M. Lieberman, treasurer.
