Chief Rabbi Katzenelbogen of Leningrad has not been arrested as was reported abroad, the correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned after communicating with Leningrad. No one there fears that the venerable leader will ever be arrested because he is 93 years old.

Rabbi Katzenelbogen was probably confused with Rabbis Lazarev and Yasnogorodsky who are still unreleased. Others still under arrest are all those members of the Leningrad Jewish community whose arrest for violating the Soviet religious law was reported several weeks ago. Their violation led to the liquidation of the community.
