Funeral services will be held this morning for A. Bertram Samuels, lawyer and insurance company executive, who died of heart attack Tuesday at the age of forty-eight.
Services will be held at the Riverside Memorial Chapel, with Rabbi Jonah B. Wise officiating. Burial will be on the Free Synagogue plot in the Westchester Hills Cemetery.
Samuels, who lived at 1016 Firth avenue, had just returned from lucheon to the offices of the Manhattan Mutual Auto Casualty Insurance Company when he collapsed. Associates said he appeared to be in excellent health directly before the stroke which resulted in his death.
He was a prominent Republican and served as Deputy Assistant District Attorney under Charles S. Whitman. He became special Assistant United States Attorney at the beginning of the World War.
He retired to the insurance business after the War, becoming president of the Consolidated Indemnity and Insurance Company. Liquidation of this company began last May, and Samuels was retained by the Manhattan Company as vice-president, director and counsel.
Samuels is survived by a widow, Edith; a daughter, Arline, three brothers, Emanuel, Jack and Gustave; and two sisters, Mrs. Birdie Lefkowitz and Mrs. Estelle Herzberg.
