A convicted Nazi war criminal said he hopes to return to Germany from house arrest in Italy to nurse his ailing wife. “I would so much love to spend the rest of my life with her,” said Erich Priebke, a former SS captain who was given a life sentence in 1998 for his role in the March 1944 massacre of 335 Romans, including about 75 Jews, at the Ardeatine Caves south of Rome.
