A former spokesman for prime ministers Ariel Sharon and Ehud Olmert was named as Israel’s consul general in New York. Asaf “Asi” Shariv, 34, will take over for Arye Mekel in the key diplomatic post in August, the Prime Minister’s Office announced this week.
