A Jewish project supporting sustainable agriculture has added eight new sites in North America. For Tuv Ha’Aretz, that brings to 18 the number of synagogues and JCCs in North America and Israel taking part in its Community-Supported Agriculture network. Tuv Ha’Aretz members purchase an entire season’s worth of organic produce in advance from a local farmer, who delivers the food once a week to their synagogue or Jewish community center. The plan supports local, sustainable farming in line with the values of eco-kashrut, an expanded understanding of kosher food as including food that is ethically fit to eat. The new sites are in Chicago; Los Angeles; New York; San Francisco; Washington, D.C.; White Plains, N.Y.; Lancaster, Pa.; and Vancouver, B.C. Tuv Ha’Aretz is a program of Hazon, known for its bike rides and hikes in support of Jewish environmentalism.
