A Kiev appeals court has turned down four Israeli families seeking compensation for a 2001 plane crash. The families had filed lawsuits seeking $1.1 million each from the Ukrainian government for their relatives killed when a Siberian Airlines jet crashed en route from Tel Aviv to Novosibirsk. The plane went down in the Black Sea in October 2001, killing all 66 passengers and 12 crewmembers. A Moscow air safety group determined that the plane was unintentionally shot down by a missile fired by Ukrainian forces during military exercises on the Crimean Peninsula. But on Aug. 21, Kiev’s appellate court upheld a Ukrainian lower court’s January ruling that disputed the air safety group’s findings.
