A majority of Israelis believe Ehud Olmert should be suspended or removed, a poll found.

Some 55 percent of more than 1,000 people polled said the Knesset should remove the prime minister from office because of three criminal investigations against him.

A majority of 53 percent said the reason Olmert is pursuing peace with the Palestinians is to further his political career. Some 65 percent said they opposed a large withdrawal from the West Bank.

Another 61 percent said they were against removing Israeli soldiers from the West Bank and giving control of the area to the Palestinians. If such a withdrawal took place, 55 percent believe the Palestinians would use the area to shoot missiles into Israeli territory.

The poll was sponsored by the Israel Police Center for Promoting Parliamentary Democracy and Jewish Values in Israeli Public Life.
