A new synagogue opened in the Czech Republic on the site where a shul burned down in 1938 during the Nazi-led pogrom of Kristallnacht. An expected protest by neo-Nazi groups at the opening in the town of Liberec did not occur. About 100 people belong to the local Jewish community.
