A religious Israeli inmate was deprived of kosher food as punishment for keeping sexually explicit material in his cell. Gur Hamel, who is serving a life sentence for murdering a Palestinian olive-picker in the West Bank, appealed to Tel Aviv District Court on Monday against the Prisons Service’s penalty. He argued that the pornographic magazine found in his cell was a one-time slip-up.
